But today everyone (including my professor) was really nice. Even my patient was awesome! I couldn't have asked for a better day.
Now on to shallow shit. One thing I hate about clinicals is the uniform! It's not the scrubs that bother me, there're super comfy. It's the hair and nail policy! Arrrggghhh!
Your hair must be tied up in a bun, completely off your shoulders and absolutely no nail polish except clear!
This is freaking insane! Also this is a school policy not a hospital policy, I see nurses, wearing their hair down, in braids, or ponytails.
And don't get me started on their beautiful manicures. This is such torture.
I mean I understand the no artificial nail policy, I think fake nails are super gross anyways. They harbor an ass load of bacteria and look, in my opinion like crap after a weeks worth of growth. Plus there's a chance for fungus-no thanks.
But natural nails, come on! At least allow me to have light shades! I promise not to wear neon!
And my hair! I hate wearing buns! Buns are for the gym, washing your face, and old ladies!
This dress code is insane. I need to start a petition. I swear I can give patient-centered care just as effectively with an awesome do'.
Enough of that.
What I do have left is make-up. And boy, do I use it. I'm mean I should at least look better than the sick patients I'm taking care of, right?
So it has to be "tasteful", which I think my make-up always is.
Here's my hospital make-up routine.
I use SKIN79 BB cream VIP Gold edition. It's great for the hospital because it has just enough coverage and makes your skin look slightly dewy.
Then I prime my eyes with eyeshadow primer, I use urban decay's right now but that will not be the case after I'm done using it. I'm so sick of the shitty packaging. So a dumb fucking design-over it.
Then I apply Nyx jumbo eyeshadow pencils (either Strawberry milk or oyster), and sometimes I set it with translucent powder or an eyeshadow similar in shade and I do this very lightly.
I line my eyes with MAC fluidline in blacktrack. I do a thin line, winged out just slightly.
I throw on some Loreal million lashes mascara.
I use a shimmer compact I have (from Jane, & no longer available but Physicians Formula makes a good one also) on my cheeks and light catching spots.
I also splash a small amount of Elf's pink passion blush. Just so you know, pink passion is a bright-ass pink! So I apply a small amount & not on the apples of my cheeks because I think that makes you look older I do it higher and closer to my nose. It gives a more child-like blush to cheeks.
Anyways I blend the shit out of that and it looks really sweet and pretty.
Now lips are my most important feature in my opinion. At least when it comes to hospital make-up. It's my "statement" piece. So I must chose wisely.
I always pick some shade of pink. Because, well, I like pink. It suits my skin tone and it's pretty. Although I have other shades of lipstick (red, peach, nude, and purple'ish) but I have a ton pinks.
Another lipstick choice I make for the hospital is matte. I always pick a matte because I just don't want shiny, greasy looking lips at the hospital. I feel like matte colored lips give the illusion of natural pigmented lips.
I went to Ulta on Monday. I had a coupon for 3.50$ off a purchase of 10$ or more. So I bought the 2 Nyx jumbo eyeshadow pencils (since I'll be using them a lot more) and I bought 2 Nyx matte lipsticks. One in Summer Breeze and one in Sweet Pink.
Here's some pictures.
All four products.
Lipsticks. Sweet pink on the left and Summer Breeze on the right.
Jumbo eyeshadow pencils. Strawberry Milk on the left and Oyster on the right.
